Joanne's Story

Joanne's schools include Rutherford High School. TV shows Joanne likes include Good Morning America, Kathie Lee and Hoda. More about Joanne:"My Story I was diagnosed with stage 3C carcinosarcoma ovarian cancer in March of 2010. My particular case is extremely rare in that only 1 in 1 million women get this type of cancer. I saw several oncologists not one of them ever treated a case like mine. I got the same answer: “Your cancer is very aggressive and there is no statistical data for us to reference in order to prescribe an effective treatment plan.” I received chemotherapy treatments all over the country, from New York to Texas to Florida. Treatments left me physically drained, nauseous, and unable to care for myself. I tried a variety of drug concoctions and combinations. As if trying to cope with cancer wasn’t bad enough, my husband and I were fired from our jobs in November of 2010 after 14 years of dedication to our employer. We were faced with uncertainty as to what would happen. I was feeling hopeless and lost until some very close friends had told me about a clinic ...Expand for more
in Houston that provides an alternative to traditional chemotherapies. To make a very emotional, expensive, and long story short, we traveled to the clinic and a treatment plan was devised using a number of targeted chemotherapy drugs. Then began “The Fight Against Big Blue”. Our insurance company denied all claims for all of the drugs except for one. We have received no compensation. Although devastated by this news, I haven’t given up hope. I can’t. I want to live and beat this. It takes a lot of effort and strength to deal with having cancer. To have to deal with being unemployed, scheduling of many appointments, traveling to and from doctors’ offices, keeping track of medication, and the financial burden would be enough, but to have to fight for life-saving medication with the insurance companies is the worst of all. My advice: listen to your body! You know your body, and if you notice something is amiss, make sure your doctor listens to you. Early treatment can be the difference between life and death!
